“It stops here. With me and you. It ends with us.”

On today’s Episode of Bow to Pressure and Read That Book!, Colleen Hover’s It Ends With Us has been on my radar for a while, and I finally decided to pick it up because it is one of the highly recommended books on #booktok.

“OK, what’s next?” I wondered with each page turn. Simply put, I couldn’t put it down!

The plot revolves around the protagonist, Lily Bloom. Lily Bloom has returned to Boston from Plethora, Maine, where she gave a “memorable” eulogy at her father’s funeral. Her meeting with Ryle, on the other hand, is the evening’s high point. Ryle, the smoking hot neurosurgeon, and Lily met on the rooftop of a building that she doesn’t live in. They had a beautiful time together here. Beautiful, if you’re willing to share naked truth with a complete stranger.

Right from the start. This attractive doctor reveals that he is toxic. But you already know how it is. The fascination and curiosity that comes with an attractive but toxic person. They parted ways after spilling a good amount of Naked truths, which is a thing where they reveal their innermost thoughts. They had hoped not to see each other again, but by chance they did, but this time Lilly is no longer a marketer; she has opened her own flower shop. Which was a dream come true because she had always used gardening as a means of escape, and after talking with the handsome stranger, she went after her dreams.

This book moves at a breakneck pace. Before we know it, she’s best friends with Allysa, who happens to be Ryle’s sister and walks into her shop one day looking for work, resulting in a reunion between Ryle and Lily. Alyssa is both intriguing and persistent. In this book, both she and her husband Marshall provided comic relief. While Ryle and Lily are head over heels in love, he has his demons, and she has a past that she holds close to her heart.

A past involving a man named Atlas. Whom she revealed she had a relationship with when she was back in Maine and he was homeless. Atlas reappeared, not only in the same city, but also he ran a restaurant that Lily, her mother, and Ryle frequented.

Growing up, Lily and Atlas had a special bond. He had insights into her life that she had not shared with anyone, and she had rescued Atlas when he needed her, and it is now his turn to repay the favour by assisting her in leaving her abusive partner.

The author used the first-person narrative technique, which made the story easy to read. Flashbacks were also useful when Lily’s Diary, which is actually entries to Ellen DeGeneres, was revealed.

It Ends With Us is a deeply personal book that explores themes that are important to the author. Childhood Trauma, Abusive Marriages, Victim Shaming, and Liberation are among the themes explored. This book is so beautifully woven that it’s impossible not to fall in love with it.

Fans of contemporary fiction, Young Adult novels, Romantic fiction, and lovers of good literature are bound to find this book appealing. I give this book five out of five stars.
